Scan Results Oct 2008

Hi All,

Well, firstly sorry for the delay in sending this, I really don't know where the time goes. Poppy (very bravely) lay perfectly still for the whole 45 minutes of her scan on 29th September. We felt that this was a real achievement, as it now means that Poppy can have her MRI scans without anaesthetic, making each scan much less of an ordeal for her now.

The scan results are mostly good, here goes:
1. The lump of tumour on her brain stem (that's always been a scary piece because of where it is) is smaller - fantastic news!
2. The rest of the tumour is stable - great news!
3. The cyst inside the tumour is stable - great news!
4. A new smaller cyst behind her GOOD eye is a quite a lot bigger - Yikes! Not great news at all.
So, they will rescan in 2 to 3 months to see how that cyst is behaving. A neurosurgeon at the meeting said he could easily drain it (we know what 'easy' means to brain surgeons though - to me anything that involves them putting needles in Poppy's brain & drilling holes in her skull isn't easy!). However, it is cyst, not tumour & cyst is definitely less scary than tumour, and Poppy is FANTASTIC!!! So, all in all it's great news, with a bit of a YUK! tagged on the end of it!!! Hope that makes sense!!!

We have had a phonecall from the hospital tonight to say they're taking Poppy's port out next Monday (20th) - so that's good - as it has become loose inside her chest.

Poppy is great in herself, happy, chatty, finally off the anti-sickness tablets, eating well, making great progress at school, smiling...so we are extremely lucky.

Thank you to everyone who has requested ball tickets - as soon as I have made them I will post them out to you! If you haven't ordered yours yet, we'd be grateful if you could do so as soon as possible - it really helps us with the organisation side of it. We hope you can join us - it is only £25 a ticket, including a 2-course meal, at Drayton Manor on Saturday 31st January 2009 - with a royal fancy dress theme!!

Thank you to those of you who have helped out with raffle prizes - we are really grateful. If anyone else has anything suitable, please let us know - any prize, no matter how big or small is very gratefully received. THANK YOU!

Well, I hope this email finds everyone well. Take care all & thanks for your kind thoughts & prayers. Please can we ask for you to continue to pray for Abi, George, Jasmine, Ollie, Hope, Haydn, Alex & the many other children who are living with horrible illnesses too.

Love to all,
Lisa, Brian & Poppy Guilder
